CLOTHING

Terramar HOTTOTTIES Shirt:
Purpose: Cold weather gear
Rating: 5 stars

I purchased one of these shirts to try and fend off the cold during our more northerly expeditions. I bought it at a department store near home, and later found it on Amazon for half the price (go figure). As a perpetually cold lady, I can say first hand, THESE ARE EPIC. The material is stretchy, breathable, and lightweight. On the inside it is lined with a thin layer of dense fleece formed into a waffle-like pattern. The sleeves have reinforced thumb loops and a good length cuff. I am 6' tall and fairly thin and this fits great. This is the first shirt I've ever bought from a department store that has long enough sleeves for me to enjoy, with a comfortably loose waist. It comes in several colors, including black, pink, and a gorgeous teal. My favorite shirt now! It has held up to much abuse and several washings with no shrinkage or damage to the fleece.

Merrell 'Dash' Glove Running Shoe
Purpose: 3 season shoe
Rating: 4 stars

As a fan of ultralight, I think lighter is better. I'd never tried the "barefoot" style of shoes, so these were my first pair. IT'S AMAZING! They really do fit your foot like a glove, they feel somewhat like slipping on a well fitted wetsuit. You'd hardly know they're there for how light they are. The Vibram soles are incredibly hard and durable, so you get the barefoot experience without pain from sharp rocks and the like. The insole is minimal while still offering some support. The shoe itself is made of a strong synthetic leather and mesh paneling on the sides and heel. The interior is comfortable and smooth, and I usually wear them without socks, although they are just as comfortable with socks. They dry quickly when wet. Wearing these makes rock climbing, running, and daily use genuinely fun again. They are higher priced than a pair of K-Mart "tennies" but they are worth every dime in durability, comfort, and performance. The only reason I rate them 4 out of 5 stars is that the tread pattern can be somewhat slick for certain conditions, like ice and slick rock.
